Topic: Walking in God’s Promises
Remember: It is our month of fulfillment of the Word of God.
Emphasis: God can be trusted. God has receipts. He has done it before.
Main Text: 2 Peter 1:3–4
* God is not about to provide everything you need for the future; He has already created it. He has already done it by His divine power.
* God can be trusted. If He has said it, He will do it.
* God’s promises are a taste of His divine nature.
What Does It Mean to Walk in God’s Promises?
Walking in God’s promises means living by faith and trusting in Him.
Hebrews 11:6
* We require faith to trust God’s promises because we cannot see Him.
* Sometimes, it takes an encounter to know Him and trust Him.
* God is faithful to His Word.
Prayer: The Lord will help me. Lord, help my unbelief.
“October is running, there is a stirring of the water. Do not miss it.”
Hebrews 11:11
Sarah received because she believed.
2 Corinthians 1:18–20 (NLT): God’s promises are very simple.
How Do We Walk in God’s Promises?
Requirement: Faith is the requirement to receive the promises of God.
1. You have to take a step.
Sarah and Abraham took a step even after they received the promise of God.
2. You can walk into the promise when you make up your mind to give God an unusual thing.
Decide what you want to give to God.
Examples from the Bible
A. Hannah — 1 Samuel 1:11
Hannah tapped into Genesis 1:28 and Exodus 23:26 (NLT).
“None will be barren.”
B. Jehoshaphat — 2 Chronicles 20:18–24
Jehoshaphat praised his way into the promise of victory.
Exodus 14:14 (NLT): You don’t need to fight. Just stay calm.
C. The Woman with the Issue of Blood — Matthew 15:26
* The woman had an issue of blood.
* She tapped into the promise of healing.
* She did the unusual.
* But the motive is what matters.
* The unusual act does not have to become doctrine; it’s the motive that matters.
D. Solomon
* Solomon gave an unprecedented gift to God, and God gave him unprecedented wealth.
* God does not give in the same measure as we give Him.
E. The Shunammite Woman — Isaiah
* She received what she did not expect from God, not what she asked for.
* Gehazi was the one who said she did not have a child yet. Then Elijah prophesied.
* She received what she did not expect, but she lacked something.
* Because there was already a promise from God that none shall be barren, and a command from God to be fruitful and multiply, the promise of God was activated by the word of the prophet.
Key Takeaways
* God can be trusted. He is faithful to His Word and His promises.
* Faith is essential. We must trust God even when we cannot see Him.
* Faith requires action. We must be willing to take steps after receiving God’s promises.
* Give God your unusual. Hannah, Jehoshaphat, and Solomon illustrate the importance of prayer, praise, and giving.
* Your motive matters. An unusual act does not automatically become doctrine; the motive behind it matters.
* God can exceed your expectations. Be open to receiving what you did not even know to ask for.
Closing Prayer
Lord, help my unbelief. Help me to walk in Your promises, trust Your Word, and respond to You in faith. Amen.
